The Midwest Model United Nations (MMUN) is proud to announce its guest speakers for their fifty third annual conference, Ireland’s Council General to the Midwest Aidan Cronin and United States Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern.

The conference will open with a keynote address by Council General Cronin. Cronin took up duty as the Consul-General of Ireland in 2011 after working as Private Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and as Head of the Minister’s Private Office from 2009-2011. From 2005 to 2008, Aidan served as Deputy Head of Mission in the Irish Embassy in Canberra and from 2003-2005 as Deputy Head of Mission in the Irish Embassy in Tehran. He also worked in the Irish Embassy in Beijing from 1998-2001 and, in the course of his career at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin, has worked on EU, Legal, UN and Irish Abroad issues.

Ambassador Heffern, a St.   Louis native and the conference’s closing speaker, is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service.  The Ambassador most recently served as the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at USNATO, Brussels. Heffern previously served as DCM in Jakarta, Indonesia and Executive Assistant to the Undersecretary for Political Affairs.  Prior to entering the Foreign Service, Heffern served in the office of Senator John C. Danforth (R-MO) as the Senator’s Office Director and Research Assistant.

The Midwest Model United Nations Conference will take place February 20-23, 2013 at Union Station in downtown St. Louis, MO.  The MMUN is an all-collegiate organization dedicated to the concept of a “Venture in Practical Education for the last 53 years.” It is designed to furnish a structure and forum for students to work with the most pressing international issues from a perspective outside of the classroom, and thus broaden their awareness of the world of politics. The MMUN has been in existence since 1960 and has an official relationship with the United Nations as a non-governmental organization.
