Dr. Andreas Riecken
Deputy Chief of Austrian Mission to the United States
His Excellency Andreas Riecken, Deputy Chief of the Austrian Embassy in the United States, has been active in public service for almost twenty years, beginning his career as the Stagiaire at the Economic and Social Committee in Brussels/Belgium in 1993. From there, Dr. Riecken specialized in company law at a law firm in Vienna, moving on to a position in the Department for Consular Affairs at the Foreign Ministry of Austria.
In 1995 he served in the Austrian Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, returning in 1996 to the Foreign Ministry to work in Security Policies. In 1996, Dr. Riecken was appointed to the Mission of Austria to NATO in Brussels/Belgium, serving as the Deputy Chief from 2001 to 2004. He then served as the European Correspondent for the Austrian Foreign Ministry before beginning his current position as the Deputy Chief of Mission to the United States in 2008.
Dr. Riecken served as a Lieutenant in the Austrian Military, and completed his doctorate in law at the University of Graz.
He is married to Elizabeth Riecken and has four children, and currently resides in Washington, D.C.
